Gold Cup Parade Neighbourhood Tour to Celebrate PEI Spirit

The Gold Cup Parade Committee is pleased to announce the Gold Cup Parade Neighbourhood Tour, taking place Friday, August 20 in Charlottetown. The Neighbourhood Tour will commemorate the Gold Cup Parade with a select number of floats and will spread PEI spirit throughout various neighbourhoods in Charlottetown on the morning of August 20.

Summer series Ceilidh

Summer series Ceilidh at Winsloe Lions Hall, Monday August 23 starting at 7:00 pm, featuring special guests the Langille Boys, Sam and Brian, and  Jacinta MacDonald they will be joined by Brian Knox and Judy Lowe. There is a 50/50 draw and canteen service.   The hall is wheel chair accessible. Birthday – ROCKY JOHNSON

Rocky Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles; August 24, 1944 – January 15, 2020) was a Canadian professional wrestler born in Amhurst NS. Among many National Wrestling Alliance titles, he was the first black Georgia Heavyweight Champion. He won the World Tag Team Championship in 1983, along with his partner Tony Atlas, to become the first black champions in WWE history. He is the father of actor and former WWE wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

NATIONAL WAFFLE DAY

August 24, 2021

National Waffle Day celebrates the popular dish. This observance also commemorates the first Waffle Iron. Waffles are typically made with eggs, flour, and sugar. It is typically served as a breakfast dish. In 1869, Cornelius Swartwout invented the first waffle iron in the United States. A Waffle Iron is an appliance that consists of two metal pans that fold together to make the treat.

INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY

International Dog Day serves to raise awareness of the thousands of dogs that need to be rescued and encourages appreciation for family dogs and working dogs, such as bomb dogs, service dogs, rescue dogs and law enforcement dogs. Dogs are owned by many families, however many other dogs are homeless or have been abandoned. Every year, these dogs are taken into shelters. Only 35% of shelter dogs are adopted, 26% are returned to their owners and 31% are euthanized.
