From October 19th-28th\, we will be encouraging Islanders to take the bus and to tell us about their experience using the public transit system in PEI.\nOn October 24th\, we will partner with T3 Transit to provide free bus tours. Bring your family and friends to learn about the bus system! The bus tours will cover many of the bus routes in Charlottetown.\nMeet at the Charlottetown Mall bus stop (670 University Ave.) at your selected tour time.\nWe believe that public transit must be accessible and inclusive. This means that people using wheelchairs or pushing strollers can get on and off\, that people with visual or auditory impairments can easily use the system\, that the schedule is comprehensive and easy to understand\, that the whole system is well-promoted\, and that it feels safe to use. Safety and reliability of public transit services is a social justice issue. We value considering the needs of individuals for whom using public transit is made more challenging due to past histories and current experiences of trauma\, mental health struggles\, and disability. We also recognize the interconnectedness of all barriers to accessing public transit. An accessible and inclusive public transit system must serve all people living in Epekwitk (so-called PEI)\, including those in rural areas.\nA truly public transit system must have a guiding body that includes the lived experience of a diversity of public transit riders. The system must include a mechanism for riders (and potential riders) to easily register their transit needs and feedback. It must feel publicly owned and administered.\nOur goals:\n1. To hear from and engage diverse Island communities about their public transit needs and the barriers they experience;\n2. To reframe the conversation about public transit to centre it around social-ecological change; and\n3.
